PSYCHOANALYSIS IN PRACTICE:

This monthly supervision and teaching group presents key concepts of psychoanalysis through didactic input and gives life to these concepts in creating links between the theoretical material and each psychotherapist’s clinical observations and case material. Focusing on selected topics, the series of seven seminars explore psychoanalytic concepts in depth and enrich one’s understanding through examining how these concepts play out in practice and our clinical work.

Seminal papers will be provided, and each individual will have the opportunity to receive supervision from Siobhán in a small, intimate group space.

Days: Thursday or Friday 8h00 – 9h40 (2 HPCSA CPD Points per seminar)

PSYCHOANALYSIS & ECOLOGY:

An Introduction Drawing from psychoanalytic theories, this course of seven monthly seminars examines the reciprocal and determining relationship of the unconscious and our natural environment. Siobhán explores both the individual and collective conscious and unconscious responses and defences to environmental phenomena such as climate concerns, biodiversity change and environmental challenges. Using vignettes and observations, Siobhán illustrates the presence and manifestation of affective and ‘psychoterratic states’ as well as the sometimes-subtle unconscious dynamics playing out with children, adolescents adults in – and out – the room. Relevant readings will be provided and different approaches and interventions drawing from psychoanalytic thinking will be discussed. The course also addresses the delicate balance of social justice and environmental justice while creating a space to reflect on our experiences and role as therapists and practitioners in the face of environmental breakdown.

Days: Thursday or Friday 8h00 – 9h40 (2 HPCSA CPD Points per seminar)
